Qassim Cement Company “QCC” Sustainability Framework Overview

The Qassim Cement Company's sustainability framework is built on three core pillars: Society, Environment, and Corporate Governance. This framework reflects our vision and outlines our sustainability goals, objectives, and alignment with global and national initiatives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Saudi Vision 2030, and the Saudi Green Initiatives (SGIs). Through this framework, we are committed to fostering a healthy planet, enhancing societal well-being and equity, supporting a thriving economy, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our services to stakeholders.

1 - People and Society

At QCC, we are dedicated to upholding our corporate social responsibilities (CSR), labor rights, living standards, and stakeholder engagement through well-defined policies and standards. Our social operating standards include Labor Best Practices, CSR, Workplace Equal Opportunities, and Occupational Health & Safety.

QCC's management is devoted to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety culture and performance. We continuously analyze and evaluate safety measures to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with the latest safety standards. Our key initiatives include:

    •      Enhancing safety perception among employees, contractors, customers, and visitors through surveys, risk assessments, and benchmarking projects.

    •      Implementing the latest international safety standards within an integrated safety management system.

    •      Promoting safety awareness through ongoing training and education.

    •      Providing necessary safety tools and equipment.

    •      Developing and implementing comprehensive evacuation and emergency response plans.

As part of our CSR efforts, QCC has played a pivotal role in establishing a sophisticated food analysis laboratory in Buraidah City. We have also supported various sectors, including education, health, and youth, through activities related to tourism, culture, and education. Additionally, QCC has made significant contributions to organizations such as Insan, an underage handicapped center, and King Abdul Aziz Women Charity.

2 - Environment

QCC is committed to proactive climate action, including the measurement of Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reducing our carbon footprint, and adopting best practices in energy management. We have established internal standards for water and wastewater management, solid waste management, and biodiversity protection.

Our efforts to preserve the environment are reflected in our continuous measurement, monitoring, and improvement of our interactions with the ecosystem. Through robust environmental policies and monitoring systems, we track our progress towards achieving our environmental goals. Significant investments in pollution control have led to a marked reduction in CO2 and dust emissions.

QCC utilizes an advanced management system to conserve natural resources, including the operation of a water treatment plant that processes wastewater for landscaping purposes. Our commitment to environmental protection is evident in our greenery and landscaping initiatives, which have resulted in the planting of over 48,000 plants and the development of 21,000 square meters of landscaped areas.

3 - Corporate Governance 

Corporate governance at QCC is the foundation of how our company is directed and controlled. It encompasses ethical behavior, transparency, strategic corporate planning, compliance, internal controls, reporting and communication, shareholder rights and interests, and risk management.
